OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO PREMIERE: FENECH-SOLER - MAGNETIC

Surely Fenech-Soler should be one of the UK’s biggest bands by now?

The British synthpop four piece have just premiered the official music video for the uplifting slice of euphoric electronica ‘Magnetic’; the follow up to last year’s equally impressive single ‘All I Know’.

What do you think?

OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO PREMIERE: THE WANTED - WALKS LIKE RIHANNA

The Wanted have looked to some of pop’s most successful boybands for the inspiration behind the official music video for their new name-checking single ‘Walks Like Rihana’.

Scenes from the videos for Take That’s 1995 chart topper ‘Back For Good’, Backstreet Boys’ sole UK #1 hit ‘I Want It That Way’ and ‘N Sync’s ‘Bye Bye Bye’, a #3 hit from back in 2000, are reimagined with The Wanted clearly making a power play for the title of the now biggest boyband on the block.

Of course, it’s all done with tongue firmly in cheek but The Wanted have never come across as the type of group to hold back from making such statements, so I’d not put it past them to be secretly harbouring misplaced delusions of grandeur.

Because ‘Walks Like Rihanna’ is not classic boyband fare. It’s a catchy and diverting offering but that’s mainly because it’s very basic. It’ll sound good when driving around in the sun with the wiindows down but you’d not want anyone to catch you singing along.

I guess the most surprising thing for me is how much the new single sounds like something Twitter ‘rivals’ One Direction would sing, whilst the dance beats that separated them from their competition and punctuated recent hits like ‘Chasing The Sun’, ‘Glad You Came’ and ‘I Found You’ have gone AWOL. Perhaps it’s a deliberate ploy to try to extend their audience to a younger base and on that basis, I think has a bloody good chance of commercial success.

The single track download is available to pre-order on UK iTunes now ahead of its release on 23 June.

OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO: CHICANE & FERRY CORSTEN FEAT. CHRISTIAN BURNS - ONE THOUSAND SUNS

British dance producer Chicane has teamed up with singer Christian Burns and Dutch DJ and remixer Ferry Corsten for his new single ‘One Thousand Suns’.

The chillout trance track was initially released to iTunes last year as an instrumental but this new version with a vocal contribution from the ex-BBMak singer is gaining both popularity and radio airplay and is set for release later this month.

BBMak scored transatlantic success back in 2000 when their debut single ‘Back Here’ reached #13 on the US Billboard Hot 100, after it had failed to break the UK chart the previous year. After its Stateside success, it was reissued and reached #5 whilst the trio’s follow up single ‘Still On Your Side’ peaked at #8 in 2001. They last troubled the To 40 when the underrated guitar pop lead single ‘Out Of My Heart (Into Your Head)’ from their second album ‘Into Your Head’ scraped in to the chart at #36, also becoming their final Billboard Hot 100 hit.

Corsten has had mixed but consistent success under various pseudonyms over the years although it is the 2004 #11 release ‘Rock Your Body Rock’ for which he is perhaps most well known.

Chicane first broke on to the UK trance scene and charts in 1996 with his debut single ‘Offshore’ which, when first released, reached #14 before being remixed and re-charting at #17 a year later. ‘Saltwater’ featuring Clannad singer Máire Brennan became his first UK Top 10 single in 1999 and in 2000, his collaboration with Canadian singer Bryan Adams ‘Dont Give Up’ earned him his only UK #1.

Since then, Chicane has racked up a further two top 10 hits with both the Tom Jones-assisted ‘Stoned In Love’ and re-working of Icelandic band Sigur Rós’ ‘Hoppípolla’ (retitled ‘Poppiholla’) peaking at #7 in 2006 and 2009 respectively.

‘One Thousand Suns’ is another superb chillout trance track, solidifying Chicane’s position as one of the UK’s most reliable dance producers. Burns’ harmonies blend well with the ambient production and it more than deserves to deliver another hit for all involved.

OFFICIAL SINGLE PREMIERE: MARIAH CAREY & MIGUEL - BEAUTIFUL

It was going to have to be good after the disappointing reception to her recent singles ‘Triumphant’ and ‘Almost Home’ and boy, Mariah Carey and Miguel’s duet ‘Beautiful’ certainly lives up to its name.

OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO: CHRIS MALINCHAK - SO GOOD TO ME

‘So Good To Me’ is a song recorded by New York producer Chris Malinchak and released via the Ministry of Sound record label on 5 May.

Within 24 hours, the EP has climbed to the top of the UK iTunes chart whilst the radio edit is already one of the Top 10 most downloaded songs, and it’s not hard to see the appeal.

Soulful vocals featuring a brilliant sample of Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell’s 1967 collaboration ‘If This World Were Mine’ are layered over ambient, chilled-out electronica resulting in a rather serene and entrancing offering that sounds great in the sun.

NEW MUSIC PREMIERE: CARLY RAE JEPSEN FEAT. NICKI MINAJ - TONIGHT I’M GETTING OVER YOU (REMIX)

Dare I say it? That this Nicki Minaj-enhanced remix of Carly Rae Jepsen’s latest ‘Kiss’ cut sounds like it may actually be an improvement on the Max Martin-produced original?

‘Tonight I’m Getting Over You’ is the latest single to be lifted from the Canadian pop star’s album and only last week became her first solo offering since last year’s smash hit ‘Call Me Maybe’ to break the UK Top 40, after ‘This Kiss’ stalled outside the Top 100 late last year.

I’m not usually a fan of such attempts to boost a pop star’s flagging career by injecting their latest release with a guest rap or pimped up beat but ‘Tonight I’m Getting Over You’ needed a rocket up its arse if we ever wanted to hear from Carly Rae again.

What it does probably signal though is the end of marketing the 27 year old as a candy floss pop princess aimed at the tween market because it quite clearly hasn’t worked out that way. It’ll be interesting then to see whether she too will have the same kind of rebrand as this remix, and who buys in to it.

And it’s still disgusting that ‘This Kiss’ flopped so hard.

OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO PREMIERE: UNION J - CARRY YOU

Union J have premiered the music video for their debut single ‘Carry You’ on their official VEVO account.

The Steve Mac-produced pop tune is set for release in the UK on 2 June and will serve as the lead cut from their upcoming debut album.

The accompanying video sees the four boys - JJ, Josh, Jaymi and George - preparing for an open mic contest and you can guarantee that the boyband’s loyal fanbase will love every single minute.

Boasting an irrepressibly catchy chorus and some impressive vocals, Union J look set to have a smash hit under their belt. And if they’re able to maintain their momentum once this first single has been and gone, I’d certainly not bet against them giving fellow X Factor alumni One Direction a run for their money in the coming months.

Question. Do 1D have a singer with a voice as impressive as Jaymi’s?
